The idea to use a chain for these purposes was already there, and at the very dawn of "powermetrostroenie". Finnish Polar had a serial PM, which also used a circuit, but contactless. There, the circuit resembled the design of an electric guitar, where the chain was used as a string, and the sensor attached to the pen worked as a pickup. Based on the fluctuations of the circuit in the magnetic field of the sensor and cadence data, Polar calculated the power. It was in 2010. In 2025, another scheme was born. The sensor has contact (but very light, according to the author) with the circuit. A toothed roller is used to calculate the speed of the chain and a tension sensor. It is not clear how it is possible, using a tension sensor, to calculate the power without reliable contact with the circuit. Among other features, it is easy (re)installation on any bike.
